Historic Hotels & Inns in Saratoga Springs
Six historic hotels and inns in the spa and racing town, from the 1877 Adelphi on Broadway to Victorian B&Bs on Union Avenue and the 1935 Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Spa State Park.
The short answer
Stay downtown or on Union Avenue: the Adelphi, whose 1877 building is the last 19th-century hotel on Broadway, and Saratoga Arms are on the main street, and the Union Avenue B&Bs sit on the race course’s street. For a park setting, the 1935 Gideon Putnam is in Saratoga Spa State Park, next to the Performing Arts Center. In summer, book the meet early and read the racing-season terms, which include multi-night minimums and early payment.

Getting around
Amtrak’s Adirondack and Ethan Allen Express both stop at Saratoga Springs, and Albany International Airport is about 30 miles away, roughly 30 minutes by car. Downtown, Congress Park and Union Avenue are walkable, and CDTA’s Route 450 bus stops on Broadway at Congress Park.
Parking
Saratoga has no street meters: Broadway and the side streets are free with time limits. The city’s garages and lots charge $2 an hour from late May through Labor Day and are free the rest of the year. The race course’s general lots are free on live race days.
When to go
Summer is peak season: the Saratoga meet runs from July to Labor Day, and the Performing Arts Center’s season fills June to August. The 2027 meet returns to the traditional 40 days; dates weren’t published when we checked. Fall and winter are quieter and cheaper.
Accessibility
The Adelphi’s elevators serve all floors and the Gideon Putnam has accessible rooms with roll-in or transfer showers. The Batcheller Mansion has stairs only. The other B&Bs don’t state their accessibility, so ask before you book.
Before you book
Racing-season terms are strict: Saratoga Arms sets 3-night minimums from mid-July to Labor Day, Union Gables and The Brunswick require full payment by January 1 and refund cancellations only if the room is re-rented, and the Batcheller wants racing-season balances by June 15. The Gideon Putnam adds a $30 nightly amenity fee from late May through October.
