The story
Frank Hahn of Baylinson and Hahn designed the Warwick, built 1925–28 in limestone and brick with classical and Renaissance features. The hotel says it has hosted Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner (who spent her honeymoon there), Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope and Sidney Poitier. In 1947, after the Ben Franklin Hotel refused to house the Brooklyn Dodgers because of Jackie Robinson, the Warwick became the team’s Philadelphia home. The 1938 and 1948 Democratic and Republican conventions used its facilities.
