The story
Herman Feldblat announced a hotel modeled on New York’s Lido Venice, and builder E. F. Munden received the permit on August 17, 1925; the Lido Venice Hotel opened on February 8, 1926 with a supper club featuring Paul Specht’s orchestra. It was renamed the Vineta for the 1928–29 season, lost to foreclosure in the Depression, and bought in March 1934 by inventor A. Atwater Kent for $48,000. It later became the Palm Court Hotel (early 1980s) and The Chesterfield (about 1989). The Reuben Brothers bought it in 2022 and restored the Vineta name, and after a three-year renovation it reopened on March 2, 2026 as Oetker Hotels’ first U.S. property, with rooms reduced to 41.
