The story

Roy France, the architect often credited with shaping Miami Beach’s hotel skyline, designed the National, which opened on Collins Avenue in 1939 with a 14-story tower topped by a silver cupola. Its restaurant atrium features a mosaic after Tamara de Lempicka’s 1920s painting ‘Girl with Gloves’, and its 205-foot pool is a signature. The hotel was fully restored in 2014 and joined Historic Hotels of America in 2010. During the COVID-19 pandemic it closed for nearly a year to redo the rooms in the Historic Tower and the cabana units.
