The story

The block was long the Dow Museum of Historic Houses; Mr. Dow bought the Dow House in 1941 and later removed Worcester House’s porch and balcony (1949). The inn says the Murat House was built in 1790 by Antonio Huertas and is named for Prince Achille Murat, Napoleon’s nephew, who lived there. Minorcan builder Antonio Canova built the Dow House (1839) and the Canova House (1840). Howells House (1909) is named for author William Dean Howells, who wintered there in 1916 and 1917.
