The story
Coca-Cola magnate Asa Griggs Candler built the 17-story Candler Building, which was the tallest building in Atlanta when completed in 1906. It was the original headquarters of the Central Bank and Trust Corporation and kept its marble exterior, Tiffany windows and grand staircase. Its owner announced a hotel conversion in 2016, and The Candler Hotel opened on October 24, 2019. The hotel restaurant, By George, is named for the architects George E. Murphy and George Stewart.
