The story
The building on Main Street dates from 1846, the peak of Sag Harbor’s whaling trade. Whaler and ferry owner Captain William Freeman and farmer Addison M. Youngs bought it in 1876, added a porch, bar and dining room, and named it The American Hotel. When Ted Conklin bought it in 1972 it had not taken guests since the early 1930s; he restored it as an inn and restaurant.
