The story
The two-story brick hotel with full verandas on both floors was built on the site of St. Marys’ former commissary and railroad office, with shops and the lobby downstairs and guest rooms upstairs. The Brandon family owned and ran it from 1920 to 2019; Sallie Brandon bought it with her sisters Semora and Ethel, and their Southern cooking drew local families. The hotel lists guests including John D. Rockefeller Sr., Andrew Carnegie, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Chester Nimitz and Senator Richard B. Russell Sr. Rooms are named for these guests.
