The story

The ten-story Hotel Savannah was built on Johnson Square in 1912 to a Beaux-Arts design by William Lee Stoddart, replacing the earlier Screven House hotel; it opened with 200 rooms and added 100 more in a 1921 addition. It became the Manger Hotel in 1954, known for its rooftop Purple Tree Lounge, and closed as a hotel in the late 1970s. From 1985 it served as offices and housed the First City Club. Left Lane restored it as the 221-room Recess Hotel & Club, which opened in fall 2026.
