The story
New York hotelier Max J. Kramer developed the Hamilton Hotel on Park Avenue, designed by local architect Peter C. Samwell, replacing the 1880s Park Inn; it had fifty rooms, a second-floor dining room, balconies over Central Park and Park Avenue, and ground-floor shops. In 1936 William R. Lovett of the Winn & Lovett grocery company (later Winn-Dixie) bought it and put a grocery on the first floor. The Spang family later bought the hotel, renovated it in the late 1970s and renamed it the Park Plaza; it is the only hotel directly on Park Avenue and today has 28 rooms with original brick walls and wood floors.
