The story
John Wells, one of New Hope’s founders, built the original structure around 1722, and it began operating as the Ferry Tavern in 1727, serving travelers on the Delaware River ferry crossing between Philadelphia and New York. In the early 1800s it was renamed the Logan Inn for Lenni-Lenape Chief Wingohocking. A late-1980s restoration preserved colonial elements and murals, and Landmark Hospitality bought it in 2015 and reopened it in 2021 after a large restoration and expansion.
The ghost story
Visit Philadelphia relays the story that Revolutionary War troops left dead enemies in the inn's cellar until spring, and guests report chills, air seeming to leave certain rooms and the figure of a tall Revolutionary soldier; the inn itself acknowledges its 'haunted Inn' reputation.
