The story
The main Island City House was built in 1880 as a private home for a wealthy Charleston family and became a hotel in 1912. The inn bills itself as the oldest operating guest house in Key West and a stop on the Key West Historic Marker Tour. The Arch House, also built in 1880, is described by the inn as the only surviving building of its kind in Key West. The third building, the Cigar House, is a red-cypress replica of the historic Alfonso Cigar Factory. The 1983 National Register inventory lists 411 William Street as a contributing three-story frame building.
