The story

Dr. Edward D. Woodruff, a former Union Pacific surgeon from Rock Springs, Wyoming, who became president of the Brown, Terry & Woodruff company behind Troy Laundry, built the 11,000-square-foot mansion in 1906 to designs by Headlund and Wood. Its English-manor interior had leather-covered walls and canvas murals by Utah painter William Culmer. The house passed to Woodruff’s daughter Lesley and her husband Franklin Riter, who as a brigadier general headed the Army Judge Advocate General’s European branch office in World War II. It was later divided into apartments and used as offices, became a bed and breakfast in 1998, and was restored by the McCarthey family in the 2000s.
