The story
A 1788 map shows a wooden house on the lot, which Minorcan colonist Francisco Marin acquired in the 1780s; his son received title in 1806. Captain Henry Belknap bought the Victorian Hopkins Cottage at 142 Bay Street, moved the Burgess Cottage onto the lot after 1893 and joined both to the coquina Marin house. After 1909 the building was divided into apartments, then ran as The Villas de Marin short-term rentals for 14 years from 1988. It reopened as a bed and breakfast in July 2003.
