The story
In 1889-90 Dennis J. Murphy built a three-story brick building under the bluff for the Tide Water Oil Company. It burned in January 1892 and was rebuilt with more than 730,000 bricks. Standard Oil used it until 1907; after more than 20 years empty, the Alexander Brothers blue-jean and overall factory occupied it from 1930 to 1980. After a 1985 renovation it reopened in 1987 as the Olde Harbour Inn. HLC Hotels bought it in December 1991 as the first property of its Historic Inns of Savannah collection. It is now owned by SPA Properties and operated by Aileron Management.
The ghost story
The inn says guests may hear 'a whisper of Savannah's spirited history' and may meet its friendly resident ghost, whom it calls 'Hank.'
