The story

Built in 1886 just east of Forsyth Park by Irish-born maritime entrepreneur Captain James Ward and his wife Catherine; the inn calls it one of Savannah’s best examples of High Victorian Italianate architecture. Hotelier Michael Gainey’s family lived there from 1913 to 1935, followed by John M. Trapani’s family through 1965. The Historic Savannah Foundation bought and renovated the house in the early-to-mid 1980s. After an ownership change in the early 2000s the inn was redecorated, and guest bathrooms were renovated in 2016-17.
