The story
Judah Colt Spencer, nephew of early Erie land agent Judah Colt and co-founder in 1852 of the First National Bank of Erie, had the mansion built as a wedding gift for his son William, completed in 1876. Family lore says the bride left William at the altar, which the inn notes has never been confirmed; William later married Mary DuPuy of Philadelphia. Three generations of Spencers led the bank, and J.C. Spencer was the last of the family to live in the house. Steve and Lisa Freysz bought it in August 2018.
