The story
This limestone house was built in 1786 for a local merchant on a formal five-bay Georgian plan with Germanic touches such as a pent roof and decorative brick tumbling. It housed Strasburg’s first chief burgess and, from 1805, its first post office. From 1839 it was the headmaster’s house and dormitory for the Strasburg Academy. Today it is a six-room B&B.
