The story
The inn occupies former cotton-trade buildings on Factors Walk, built with English ballast stone on the lower floors and Savannah grey brick above. Its own history places it in the Claghorn Range and the Jones-DeRenne Range, commercial ‘ranges’ of offices and warehouses built along River Street in the 19th century. River Street declined after the cotton trade faded; the Night Flight music club, which booked acts such as R.E.M. and Jimmy Buffett, operated on its ground floor from 1975 to 1985. The River Street Inn opened in 1986 with 42 rooms, added 42 rooms in the adjoining West Lot in 1999 and 13 more in 2019.
