The story
The Williamsport Hotel Company raised about $800,000 and hired William Lee Stoddart, who built the 10-story Beaux-Arts Lycoming Hotel from 1921; it opened in summer 1922 with a three-day celebration. It became the city’s social hub, and after the Little League World Series moved to Williamsport in 1947 it was where most competitors stayed. Guests included Rita Hayworth, Gene Kelly, Aretha Franklin, Robert F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford.
