The story
Pittsburgh manufacturer Willard F. Rockwell began a 60-acre retreat in the Laurel Highlands in the late 1940s and grew it into the Nemacolin Trail Hunting Game Reserve. The four-story Tudor Revival lodge was finished in 1968, and by the late 1970s the ‘Nemacolin Inn’ hosted celebrities such as Phyllis Diller, Milton Berle and Eva Gabor. In 1987 84 Lumber founder Joseph A. Hardy III bought it and developed the surrounding resort.
