The story
The building was home to the Lancaster Cork Company in the mid-19th century. Thomas M. Armstrong bought the plant in 1895 for his Armstrong Cork Company, which moved its whole operation to Lancaster in 1929 and later shifted from cork to linoleum. Armstrong sold the complex to Kerr Glass Manufacturing in 1969, and production ended in 2000. Developer Barry Baldwin bought it in 2004 for $1.2 million and turned it into the mixed-use Urban Place, with a wing reserved for the hotel, which opened in 2009.
