The story

The land was granted by the Crown to John Tucker in 1762. Edward Padelford began building the present brick warehouse, with its cast-iron facade and columns, in 1852 for Savannah’s cotton trade. Later tenants included a steam bakery, foreign consuls, a third-floor lodge hall and, from 1920 to 1965, the Columbia Drug Company. The vacant warehouse was converted starting in 1983 and reopened in 1984 as the East Bay Inn with 28 guest rooms. {verdigreen} hotels bought it in fall 2025 from HLC Hotels and announced renovations in May 2026.

The ghost story

Staff and guests report a mischievous but friendly spirit they call 'Charlie.' He is said to be a young man who fell from a third-floor window, and is said to walk the third floor at night, flicker lights and lock doors.
