The story
The three-story hotel was financed by the Ogden Peery family with funds from the estate of merchant and banker David Harold Peery and opened in 1910, as mining-era newcomers poured into Salt Lake City and new rail depots rose nearby. Architect Charles B. Onderdonk combined Prairie Style massing with classical revival motifs in cream-colored brick. Veteran hotelman Harry K. Miles leased it from 1925, bought it in 1947 and renamed it the Miles Hotel; the 1977 nomination records it still in hotel use. It later returned to the Peery name and joined Hilton’s Tapestry Collection.
The ghost story
Lore holds that a ghost called 'Moaning Molly' lives in the hotel's elevator: in 2012 a Peery spokesman told Fox 13 that many guests have had experiences riding what he called the haunted elevator.
