The story

Bahamian-born merchant William Curry, described by the inn as Florida’s first self-made millionaire, built a home on this Caroline Street lot in 1869. His son Milton Curry acquired the property in 1901 and replaced the house with the present Georgian Revival mansion, keeping only the old cook house’s brick chimney and hearth. The house left the Curry family in 1920; the Amsterdam family bought it in 1973 and has run it as an inn since 1988. Keys Weekly reported in November 2021 that the Spottswood family was buying the inn, which spans the mansion, its guest wing and the historic James House across the street at 512 Caroline St.
