The story
Builder John Mann put up the house on Atlantic Avenue in 1905, modeled after the Rockefeller Cottage on Jekyll Island. Banker Fred W. Hoyt, his wife Kate and their three sons lived there until his death in 1927, and the Everett Mizell family lived there for the next half-century. The 1987 NRHP district nomination names local contractor John R. Mann as the builder of some of Fernandina’s finer residences, including the Villa las Palmas, the Horsey House and the John Denham Palmer House. Today the inn has 10 guest rooms named for the Hoyt and Mizell families, original hand-tiled fireplaces, a pool, a hot tub and an English pub.
