The story

The hotel stands on lots of the “Federal Green” tract once owned by patriot Christopher Gadsden in Ansonborough, Charles Town’s first suburb. French tailor Benjamin Du Pré built a Federal house and brick outbuilding on the lot between 1803 and 1805, and neighbor Charles Seignious combined the lots in 1874, creating what was known as Maison Du Pré. Two of today’s five buildings were moved from Calhoun Street when their site was to become a parking lot. Owners Dean Andrews and Lynn Easton of Easton Porter Group restored all five.
