The story

Whitehall began as a two-story, five-bay Greek Revival house, portions of which date to the 1830s; it may have been built for Nelson Pendleton, who occupied the property in 1856. It was converted to an inn in the early 20th century, and A. M. Moody built a major addition to the east and rear in 1912. The High Street district nomination says Edna St. Vincent Millay is thought to have first read her poetry in public here. The inn also says scenes of Peyton Place were filmed there.
