The story

The building began as the Lumberman’s Hotel in Marinette; Dr. Herman Welcker bought it and had it moved in sections across the ice of Green Bay to Fish Creek, where it reopened as Welcker’s Casino, the social center of his resort. Music, games and concerts by Milwaukee and Chicago musicians filled its Great Hall. Later known as the Proud Mary Hotel, it was bought in 1985 by the owners of the neighboring White Gull Inn and restored as the Whistling Swan, which calls itself the Door Peninsula’s oldest operating inn.
