The story

Frederick and Phebe Buffum opened the first Weekapaug Inn in 1899 on a spit of land between the ocean and Quonochontaug Pond. After the 1938 hurricane damaged it, they rebuilt on a more sheltered site on the pond’s western shore, reopening in 1939. The Buffum family ran the inn for 108 years until it closed for renovation in 2007, the year it was listed on the National Register. It reopened under the Ocean House Collection.
