The story
Built in 1889 of limestone quarried at Peoa, the Washington School is the survivor of Park City’s three late-19th-century public ward schools and one of the few buildings to come through the Great Fire of June 19, 1898. As mining declined and enrollment fell, the school was sold in 1936 to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and used for dances and social events. It was renovated into the Washington School Inn bed and breakfast in 1984, then gutted to the studs and reopened in December 2011 as a 12-room hotel.
