The story
Butcher Mr. Peffler built the house in 1876, one year after the Great Fire of 1875 destroyed most of Virginia City; the original staircase and Tahoe pine floors survive. Western artist Clarence ‘Cal’ Bromund bought it in 1962, restored it and ran an art gallery and studio there until his death in 1979. Mark and Dona Stafford bought the house in April 2022. The Governor’s Suite holds a Wooten rotary desk once lent to Governor and Senator Paul Laxalt.
