The story
Murray Vandiver, who was mayor of Havre de Grace in 1885-1886 and later Treasurer of Maryland (1900-1916), built the house on South Union Avenue in 1886 as a wedding present for his bride, Annie Clayton. Today the inn calls itself a boutique hotel and event space, with 17 guest rooms in the Vandiver Mansion and the adjacent Kent and Murphy houses.
