The story
A local entrepreneur opened a tourist cabin camp on Dubois’s main street in 1929, added rustic log cabins in 1934, and built the log lodge between 1939 and 1941. The lodge and cabins were built with logs cut by local tie hacks, the timber cutters who supplied railroad ties, and the lodge has a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. It was listed on the National Register in 1993.
