The story
Elizabeth Brown Kindred, daughter of settlers George and Charlotte Brown, and her husband William Kindred built the house in 1885 as a home and haven for travelers on the Tokeland peninsula of Willapa Bay. With their daughters they bought more land and added a golf course, dairy, oyster farm and post office. It was added to the National Register in 1978 and still keeps seventeen second-floor rooms without private baths, TVs or air conditioning, plus two cabins.
