The story
The Works Progress Administration built Timberline Lodge between 1936 and 1938, with local artisans making its furnishings by hand during the Depression. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated it on September 28, 1937. The four-story lodge of local stone and timber centers on a hexagonal head house with a 90-foot stone chimney. Its exterior stood in for the Overlook Hotel in The Shining (1980).
