The story
Homesteader Charles J. Wort arrived in Jackson Hole in 1893 and dreamed of a fine hotel; his sons John and Jess opened the Wort in 1941 as the valley’s first luxury hotel. Its Silver Dollar Bar got its name in 1950 from a bar inlaid with silver dollars. A fire on August 5, 1980 gutted the second floor and roof, and the owners rebuilt it in the original style. It was listed on the National Register in 1999.
The ghost story
Wyoming's state tourism office relays the local story that two children killed by a family member in a hotel room in the 1960s still roam the halls, and that locals report seeing their faces at the windows.
