The story

Walter White, a lawyer who came to the coast in 1890, and his wife Cora built on the site of an oyster company wrecked by an 1893 hurricane, and Cora began taking boarders in 1895. Architect George B. Rogers designed the Spanish Colonial annexes of the 1920s that form today’s center and east wings. Jimmie Love Jr., later co-owner of WLOX-TV, bought the hotel in 1940. It closed in 1988 and stood empty for 26 years, and Katrina damaged it in 2005. The Lambert family restored it from 2013, reopening it on August 1, 2014.
