The story
The Book brothers commissioned Louis Kamper to design the 31-story Book-Cadillac, which opened on December 8, 1924 as the tallest hotel in the world, with 1,136 guest rooms and radio station WCX on its top floor. Sheraton later ran it as the Sheraton-Cadillac. The hotel closed in October 1984 and sat empty until a $200 million restoration reopened it as the Westin Book Cadillac in October 2008, with 65 condominiums on the top eight floors. Oxford Capital Group bought it and said the hotel would stay open during a two-year renovation.
