The story
The Towers was built around 1783 as a five-bay, center-hall Georgian house and remodeled in 1891 with towers, dormers and cut-shingle patterns, which the National Register nomination calls an outstanding example of a radical late-19th-century alteration. It was the home of John Lofland, the ‘Milford Bard’ and a contemporary of Edgar Allan Poe, and later of William Burton, Delaware’s governor from 1859 to 1863. Dan and Rhonda Bond run it as a four-room bed-and-breakfast.
