The story
The Tides Inn resort was constructed in 1947 on Carter’s Creek, and the district nomination credits it with a tenfold increase in Irvington tourism. The original three-story Colonial Revival building contains the lobby, sitting room, bar, part of the dining room and 46 guest rooms; the dining room and two floors of rooms were expanded east the same year. By 2000 the resort had about ten buildings and 194 rooms.
