The story
The 16-story tower was developed by the Threefoot family, German-Jewish immigrants who anglicized their name from Dreyfuss, and it remains the tallest building in Meridian. The Depression bankrupted the family soon after it opened. Tenants left by the 1990s, and the National Trust listed it among America’s Most Endangered Places in 2010. Ascent Hospitality bought it in 2015 and converted it to a hotel, which opened after repeated delays.
