The story
Architect James W. McLaughlin built the Italianate house in 1871 for Peter Ehrgott, a German lithographer and supporter of the Cincinnati Symphony and May Festival. Music Hall opened directly across the street in 1878, and Ehrgott’s son Louis taught music lessons and boarded music students in the house. It later operated as a boarding house and the Clyde Hotel. The Blatt family bought the long-empty building in 1995 and reopened it in 1996 as the Symphony Hotel, with nine rooms named for composers.
