The story
Designed for the Statler chain and completed in 1956 after its sale to Hilton, the Statler Hilton was the first major hotel built in Dallas in nearly three decades and the South’s largest convention facility. Architect William B. Tabler used a cantilevered flat-slab structure and an early thin curtain wall of glass and porcelain-coated panels. The hotel claimed industry firsts such as elevator music and a TV in every room, plus a rooftop heliport. It now has 159 hotel rooms on the lower floors and 219 apartments above.
