The story
The Pickwick Stages motor-coach company built the hotel in 1926 as its San Diego terminal, with a crenellated roofline and terra cotta trim; its slogan was ‘A Room and a Bath for Two and a Half.’ Two towers added in 1928 expanded it to 230 rooms, and radio station KGB broadcast from the building, where Art Linkletter began his career. Greyhound later absorbed Pickwick and occupied the building. A renovation completed in 2006 reopened it as The Sofia.
