The story
The inn’s main building, the West House, was built in 1834 by Capt. Nathaniel West, whom the inn calls the first Salem captain to sail around the globe. The inn also takes in the 1854 Italianate Curwen House and the 1874 Dutch Colonial Peabody House, for 40 rooms in three historic houses. Rooms keep working fireplaces, and the breakfast room has beehive ovens.
The ghost story
Room 17 in the 1834 West House, which the inn itself calls 'the Haunted Room', is said to be visited by a woman known as Katherine, a little boy and a cat.
