The story
The building was completed in 1912 as the flagship store of the Lipman, Wolfe & Company department store, designed by Doyle & Patterson, and later housed Frederick & Nelson. In the mid-1990s it was converted into a hotel, the Fifth Avenue Suites, which became Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco. It now operates as The Royal Sonesta Portland Downtown.
