The story
James Oliver, inventor of the Oliver Chilled Plow, bought the earlier Pagin house on the site in 1885, moved it away and built the present Queen Anne house, dated 1886. In 1897 he deeded it to Josephine Oliver Ford, whose husband George Ford was a congressman and later a Superior Court judge; Gertrude Oliver Cunningham lived there from 1918 until her death in 1987. Her children gave it to the Northern Indiana Historical Society, which sold it to endow Copshaholm, the Oliver mansion museum next door. Its turret, curved-glass bays and carved bas-relief trim survive, with a 1912 Tudor Revival carriage house behind.
