The story
The National stands on Water Street directly across from the ferry landing, in the commercial heart of Old Harbor. The National Register nomination dates it to 1888 with work in 1904 and notes that 20th-century commercial building on Water Street damaged its setting. The hotel calls itself Block Island’s flagship Victorian hotel, with 46 rooms, a full-service restaurant overlooking the harbor and six shops in the building.
