The story

The center block of the inn was built in the 1830s as the home of General Francis Preston, and the 1970 district nomination uses it as the western anchor of Abingdon’s Main Street. Martha Washington College, founded in 1860, is listed among the town’s schools in the 1986 nomination, which also names the Martha Washington Inn among the landmarks restored in recent decades. Today the inn has 63 guest rooms, a spa and the Sisters American Grill.
